pots at Mortimer Wheeler House
I made a visit to the Museum of London ceramics and glass collection, kept at Mortimer Wheeler House, which was very special. Here are some of my favourite designs I roughly drew
(sorry for the crumpled sketchbook)
It was also really nice to see a lot of ceramics from my hometown of Kingston which were excavated from various medieval kiln sites, they were very simplistic and used lots of natural shapes, loved them! i think my sketches have started leaning more in that direction too. The styles I like best are the uncomplicated bowls, dishes and pots, which might have a more complex glaze or surface design, but a really bold, basic shape.
anyway this is probably it for my pot studies, time to start making soon !

I illustrated not so long ago a speculative triptych of 3 of my Plath favourites; a novel, short stories and prose, which i never blogged. The rest are on my website.

picasso at the Tate
I feel like Picasso & Modern British Art showing at the Tate has been a little bit overshadowed by all the Hirst and Hockney hype, but i just loved it. It is both a nice example of Picasso's breadth of work, and also his influence on some amazing British artists (Hockney included, and Ben Nicholson). It's on until July, and below is a photo from a new favourite book of his wonderful ceramics
more of my own ceramic studies soon.
and here is Picasso with a baby owl ! what a guy

still here
there has been quite the gap in news around here.
I've updated both my little website (finally !) and shop (which is now on Etsy by the way - http://www.etsy.com/shop/helloemmalewis) with a bunch of new illustrations and prints for sale.
